Mumbai: Bangladeshi Transgender Woman Living in India for 30 Years Arrested for Forged Documents

Mumbai: In a startling revelation, Mumbai Police have arrested a Bangladeshi transgender woman who had been living in India illegally for nearly three decades using forged identification documents.

The accused, popularly known as “Guru Ma” Jyoti, has been identified by her real name — Babu Ayan Khan. She was apprehended following an investigation into illegal Bangladeshi nationals residing in the Shivaji Nagar area of Mumbai.

Investigation and Arrest

During a recent crackdown on undocumented Bangladeshi residents, several associates of Jyoti were detained. Although she was initially questioned and released after presenting valid-looking documents — including an Aadhaar card and PAN card — subsequent verification by police revealed that the documents were forged. Following this discovery, Jyoti was re-arrested.

Police sources confirmed that multiple cases have been registered against her in several police stations across Mumbai, including Shivaji Nagar, Narpoli, Deonar, Trombay, and Kurla.

Ownership of Over 20 Properties

Investigators also discovered that Jyoti owns more than 20 properties across Mumbai, particularly in areas like Rafiq Nagar and Govandi. Over the years, she has gained a large following in these regions, where locals referred to her respectfully as “Guru Ma.”

Charged Under Multiple Acts

Jyoti has been booked under several provisions of the Passport Act and relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) related to forgery and illegal immigration.

Similar Crackdown in Delhi

In a related development, Delhi Police recently arrested ten Bangladeshi nationals living illegally in Shalimar Bagh and Mahendra Park areas. Many among them were reportedly transgender individuals involved in begging and extortion rackets.

Police said the arrests were made after receiving intelligence about suspicious activities near Haiderpur Metro Station and Nayi Sabzi Mandi. Upon interrogation, the suspects initially claimed to be Indian citizens, but further investigation exposed inconsistencies in their statements and documents.

Authorities believe both incidents point to a larger network of illegal immigration and document forgery involving transgender communities across major Indian cities.
