Patna, October 25, 2025: Bihar leader Tej Pratap Yadav, who was recently expelled from the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) by his father and party chief Lalu Prasad Yadav, made a dramatic statement on Friday, declaring that he would “rather embrace death than return to the RJD.”
“I will choose death over returning to that party. I have no craving for power. My principles and self-respect mean more to me than any position,” Tej Pratap told PTI. “For me, the greatest purpose is to serve the people sincerely. They love and trust me, and that gives me strength,” he added.
Tej Pratap’s expulsion from both the RJD and the Yadav family followed a controversy over his alleged long-term relationship with a woman named Anushka Yadav, whose photos he had shared on social media. After the uproar, he claimed that his social media account had been hacked.
Tej Pratap was earlier married to Aishwarya Rai, the granddaughter of former Bihar Chief Minister Daroga Rai. However, within months of their marriage, Aishwarya accused her husband and his family of harassment and left his home. The couple’s divorce case is currently pending before the family court.
Amid growing tensions with his family, Tej Pratap Yadav has officially announced the formation of his new political outfit, the Janshakti Janata Dal (JJD). He has filed his nomination papers to contest from Mahua, a constituency where he made his electoral debut in 2015 and where he now hopes to reclaim his political foothold.
“I have had deep ties with Mahua long before I entered politics,” Tej Pratap said, expressing confidence about his prospects in the upcoming polls.
The Bihar Assembly Election 2025 will be held in two phases—on November 6 and November 11, with counting scheduled for November 14. The high-stakes contest is expected to pit the BJP-led NDA and Janata Dal (United) against the INDIA bloc led by Tejashwi Yadav of the RJD. Political strategist Prashant Kishor’s Jan Suraaj is also contesting across all 243 seats, making the race one of Bihar’s most competitive in recent years.
