Man Arrested for Molesting Australian Cricketer During Women’s World Cup in Indore

Indore, October 25, 2025: Police in Madhya Pradesh have arrested a man accused of following and molesting an Australian woman cricketer participating in the ongoing ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025 in India. The incident reportedly took place on Thursday morning near Khajrana Road in Indore.

According to police officials, two Australian players had left their hotel and were walking to a nearby café when a man on a motorcycle began following them. Sub-Inspector Nidhi Raghuvanshi said the accused allegedly touched one of the players inappropriately before fleeing the scene.

The players immediately alerted their team’s security officer, Danny Simmons, who coordinated with local security liaison officers and arranged for a vehicle to ensure their safety.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Himani Mishra later met the two cricketers, recorded their statements, and registered a First Information Report (FIR) at the MIG police station under Sections 74 (use of criminal force to outrage a woman’s modesty) and 78 (stalking) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

A bystander who witnessed the incident noted the motorcycle’s registration number, which helped police track down and arrest the suspect, identified as Akil Khan.

“Khan has a criminal record, and further investigation is underway,” ACP Mishra confirmed.

The incident has raised serious questions about the safety of visiting athletes during the high-profile tournament, which has drawn international attention to venues across India.
