Uttar Pradesh: 75-Year-Old Man Marries Younger Woman, Dies the Morning After Wedding

Jaunpur, Uttar Pradesh – A bizarre and tragic incident from Kuchh Muchh village in Gaur Badshahpur police station limits has left residents stunned. A 75-year-old man, Sangru Ram, who remarried after the death of his first wife, passed away suddenly the morning after his wedding night with a 35-year-old woman.

According to reports, Sangru Ram’s first wife had died about a year ago, and the couple had no children. A farmer by occupation, he lived alone while his brother and nephew reside in Delhi. Villagers said Sangru Ram had often spoken about remarrying, though many tried to dissuade him given his advanced age and frail health.

On Monday, he solemnised his second marriage through court procedures with Manbhawati, a 35-year-old woman from Jalalpur police station area. The wedding was followed by a traditional ceremony at a village temple, where the couple took the customary seven rounds around the sacred fire. Videos of the celebrations soon went viral on social media.

This was Manbhawati’s second marriage; she already has two daughters and a son from her first husband. Speaking to reporters, she said: “We talked late into the night after the wedding. He told me not to worry about my children and assured me he would take care of everything.”

However, by morning, Sangru Ram’s health deteriorated sharply. He was rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.

The sudden death has sparked suspicion. His relatives in Delhi have halted the cremation, demanding a police investigation and post-mortem before the body is released for final rites. They have termed the death “mysterious,” refusing to proceed with funeral rituals until further clarity emerges.

The incident has generated heated debate within the village. Some dismiss it as “a cruel twist of fate,” while others speculate about possible foul play. Questions have also been raised about the appropriateness of remarriage at such an advanced age and the intentions behind the union.

Police have begun an inquiry, and the results of the post-mortem are awaited.
