Mangaluru Innovator Builds AI Device That Orders Food When His Stomach Growls

Karnataka:  Sohan M Rai, a startup founder and tech content creator, has gone viral after unveiling an AI-powered device that, he claims, can automatically order food based on the growling of his stomach. Rai shared a video demonstrating the invention, attracting widespread curiosity and amusement online.

In the clip, he declares: “I invented this device which understands when I’m hungry and automatically orders food on Zomato.” He then explains how he built the wearable gadget, which attaches to a belt and monitors stomach sounds. He has named the device MOM — Meal Ordering Module.

How the Device Works

According to Rai, the device detects the sound of stomach growls and uses AI to determine hunger levels. He reveals that part of the hardware includes a stethoscope borrowed from his sister, connected to components that analyse sound patterns. The AI model powering the device is based on Claude, which processes the audio and triggers an automatic food order when hunger is detected.

Social Media Reactions

The video sparked mixed reactions online. One viewer asked, “How did you test this?” Rai replied: “Had to sit a whole day without eating.”

Another user commented, “Growl does not mean hungry. Nice work though,” to which Rai responded, “I get it when I’m hungry, so works for me.”

Others took a more humorous tone. “Should be featured in unnecessary inventions,” one person wrote. Another user wished for a pet-friendly version: “I wish this device were smaller and lightweight so I could attach it to my cat and know when he’s hungry. It would make monitoring him so much easier.”

Who Is Sohan M Rai?

Rai, hailing from Mangaluru, runs the popular Instagram page ‘zikiguy’, where he regularly posts technology-focused videos. His LinkedIn profile indicates that he earned his bachelor’s degree from Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management. After completing several internships in the tech field, he launched his own startup and began creating digital content full-time.

Rai previously gained attention in 2023 when he briefly joined Zomato as a delivery executive — and delivered food using a drone he built himself. Sharing the experiment online, he wrote: “I wanted to put my skills into use and build an autonomous drone that could deliver a pizza directly to a home. This was an experiment conducted with safety and precautions.”

The AI stomach-growl device is his latest viral experiment, continuing his trend of blending humour, innovation and technology.
