Nitish Kumar Urges Voters to Support NDA, Says ‘Being a Bihari Is Now a Matter of Pride’

Patna, November 1, 2025 Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has called upon voters to once again place their trust in the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), asserting that the state’s transformation over the past two decades has changed how the term “Bihari” is perceived — from an insult to a symbol of pride.

In a video shared on the Janata Dal (United) [JD(U)]’s official X handle on Saturday morning, Kumar reflected on Bihar’s journey since 2005. “When we took charge, Bihar was struggling on every front. In those days, being called a Bihari was considered a slur. Today, it is a badge of honour,” he said.

Highlighting the state’s progress under his administration, Kumar appealed to the people of Bihar to continue their support for the NDA in the upcoming Assembly elections. “We have been working tirelessly for Bihar’s development. You have given us four chances; please give us one more. If you elect our candidate again, Bihar will continue to move forward under an NDA government — both in the state and at the Centre,” the Chief Minister said.

Emphasising his inclusive governance approach, Kumar declared, “I have done nothing for my personal family. The whole of Bihar is my family. I have worked for Hindus, Muslims, and people of all castes and religions.”

Kumar also credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership for accelerating Bihar’s growth. “Under the NDA, Bihar is witnessing all-round development, and this journey will continue,” he added, in what appeared to be a clear campaign message ahead of the state polls.

The 243-member Bihar Legislative Assembly will go to polls in two phases on November 6 and 11, with counting scheduled for November 14. The ruling NDA, led by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, will face off against the opposition Mahagathbandhan, spearheaded by the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD).

The NDA alliance includes the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Janata Dal (United) [JD(U)], Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas), Hindustani Awam Morcha (Secular), and Rashtriya Lok Morcha. The Mahagathbandhan bloc comprises the Congress, the Left parties, and Mukesh Sahani’s Vikasheel Insaan Party (VIP).

Adding a new dimension to this year’s election, political strategist Prashant Kishor’s Jan Suraaj movement is set to make its electoral debut — a factor expected to influence Bihar’s complex political dynamics.
