Speculation has intensified in Pakistan following unverified reports circulating on social media that former prime minister Imran Khan may have been assassinated inside Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi. Despite the viral posts, no official confirmation has been issued by the Pakistani government or credible authorities.
Several social media accounts, including one claiming to represent the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Baluchistan, have alleged that Khan was killed while in custody. One post stated:
“Reports are now surfacing from inside prisons in Punjab that Imran Khan, who was being held in custody, has been killed by Asim Munir and his ISI administration, according to several news outlets. If confirmed, this would mark the complete downfall of terrorist Pakistan. The collapse of its remaining legitimacy will begin once the truth is exposed to the world.”
Imran Khan, chairman of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), has been imprisoned since August 2023. In recent months, authorities in Islamabad have reportedly imposed an informal ban on prison visitations.
Amid the growing rumours, Khan’s three sisters—Noreen Khan, Aleema Khan, and Uzma Khan—attempted to meet him on Tuesday. They later alleged that police used force against them and PTI supporters who had gathered outside Adiala Jail.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi was also denied permission to visit Khan. According to his office, Afridi has made seven attempts to meet the former prime minister but has repeatedly been blocked by jail authorities, whom Khan’s supporters accuse of acting under direct military influence.
As of now, the allegations regarding Khan’s condition remain unverified, and officials have not provided any statement addressing the rumours.
