2 arrested in Tallaght in series of attacks targeting Indians in Ireland, including teenager

The Indian community in Ireland is relieved as the first arrests have been made following a series of racist attacks targeting them over the summer. The Gardaí (Ireland's national police force) announced on Friday morning that a 30-year-old man and a minor teenager have been arrested for the brutal attack on an Indian Amazon employee in Tallaght, Dublin on July 19.

"Both men are currently being held at Garda stations in South Dublin under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984. Enquiries are ongoing," the Garda said.  It was the first attack to make headlines in India.

A 40-year-old highly skilled Indian national was stripped naked, stabbed and left for dead by a gang near a roundabout in Kilnamanagh, Co. Talbot. He had arrived in Ireland a week earlier and his 11-month-old baby and wife were still in India,  said local resident Jennifer Murray, who found him.

"They cut his forehead, hit him on the head, threw him to the ground, causing major injuries to his head. They took off his trousers, underwear, phone, bank card, shoes, everything. They could have easily killed him."

There were a number of attacks targeting people of Indian origin in Ireland over the summer. No arrests have been made in any of the other cases. However, the attacks, which were carried out by children and teenagers, stopped after schools reopened in September. However, as the nights began to get darker, Garda patrols increased, and the attacks decreased somewhat.

The whole system is very bureaucratic. They have to go through various legal systems to make the arrests, that's why there are delays. The Indian community is very happy with the arrests. The process is slow, but it seems that all the efforts we have made have been put under pressure. The response from various quarters is meaningful.

The Indian community working in Ireland welcomes the developments and expresses its sincere gratitude to the Irish government, the Gardaí and the Indian Embassy. We are confident that justice will be served and the perpetrators will be held accountable," They said.
