A man has been arrested following a dramatic high-speed chase that spanned two counties and left two Garda vehicles damaged on Saturday morning.
The incident began shortly before 9 a.m. when Gardaí received reports of a male motorist travelling on the M4 near Kilcock, Co. Kildare, allegedly armed with a suspected firearm. Multiple Garda units were dispatched to intercept the vehicle, initiating a “managed containment operation” that continued for over an hour.
The pursuit concluded in the Tallaght area of Dublin 24 shortly after 10:30 a.m., where the car was successfully intercepted. Gardaí arrested the driver, a man in his 20s and the sole occupant of the vehicle. An imitation firearm was recovered at the scene.
The suspect is currently being detained at a Garda station in Co. Kildare under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act, 1939.
A Garda spokesperson confirmed that no injuries were reported, though two Garda vehicles sustained minor damage during the pursuit.
