RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav’s daughter, Rohini Acharya, on Saturday launched a scathing attack on her brother, Tejashwi Yadav, and his close aides, alleging that she had been pushed out of the family and left with “no one.”
Speaking to reporters at Patna Airport, Rohini asserted that Tejashwi, along with Sanjay Yadav and Rameez, was responsible for her alienation. “I have no family… Ask Sanjay, Rameez, and Tejashwi. They are the ones who threw me out,” she said, according to news agency ANI.
Referring to the Rashtriya Janata Dal’s poor performance in the Bihar Assembly elections, she warned that anyone who questioned accountability within the party would face the same treatment. “If someone wants to act like Chanakya, then questions will be asked of that Chanakya, right?” she remarked, alluding to those who she believes were attempting to manipulate political strategy without accepting responsibility.
Rohini further alleged that even mentioning Sanjay or Rameez’s names could provoke retaliation. “If their names are taken, they will throw you out of the house, get people to insult you, and even hit you with a slipper,” she claimed.
Her comments came just hours after she announced on social media that she was quitting politics and “disowning” her family. In a cryptic post, she wrote: “I’m quitting politics and I’m disowning my family… This is what Sanjay Yadav and Rameez asked me to do… and I’m taking all the blame.” She again singled out the two men, though it remained unclear what they had allegedly told her.
Internal Feud Within RJD
Political observers say Rohini’s remarks appear to be part of mounting pressure on Tejashwi Yadav to act against RJD rebel Sanjay Yadav and his associate Rameez. According to party insiders, Rohini was among the first to object publicly when Sanjay was seen occupying Tejashwi’s seat during the Tejashwi Yatra, viewing it as a sign of his growing influence over the former deputy chief minister.
Rameez, meanwhile, is believed to be an old friend of Tejashwi’s and belongs to a political family in neighbouring Uttar Pradesh, further strengthening his proximity to the RJD leader.
Sources within the party indicate that neither Lalu Prasad nor Rabri Devi has directed Tejashwi to take disciplinary action against Sanjay or Rameez. Rohini’s dramatic declaration of having “no family” is widely interpreted as an attempt to pressure her parents to intervene in the escalating internal tussle.
A trained medical doctor who later settled in Singapore with her family, Rohini gained admiration across the political spectrum after donating a kidney to her father. She has since remained an influential voice within the RJD, often speaking out on party matters.
There has also been speculation that Rohini was upset over the recent expulsion of her elder brother, Tej Pratap Yadav, from the party. However, she had actively campaigned for Tejashwi during the state elections.
RJD’s Electoral Setback
The internal turmoil comes in the aftermath of the RJD’s dramatic defeat in the Bihar Assembly elections. The ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA), led by the BJP and JD(U), secured a sweeping mandate by winning 202 seats. The Mahagathbandhan—comprising the RJD, Congress, and Left parties—was reduced to just 34.
The RJD won 25 seats, the Congress managed only 6, and the Left combined secured 3. The BSP and IIP bagged one seat each, marking one of the most decisive electoral verdicts in Bihar in over a decade.
