Bhind (Madhya Pradesh): A woman from Bhind was allegedly raped, blackmailed and extorted of more than ₹4 lakh by a long-time family acquaintance, police said on Monday. The accused also recorded an obscene video of the survivor and used it to threaten her into silence, officials added.
The accused, identified as Ravikant Parashar alias Puttu, a resident of Ward No. 12 near Hanuman Temple in Chaikur, had reportedly been close to the victim’s family for years. According to police, he gained the family’s trust by helping them when the woman’s father fell critically ill.
Rape Under the Pretext of Document Collection
In her complaint, the woman stated that Parashar called her to his home on the pretext of collecting some documents. Once she arrived and was alone, he allegedly raped her. When she tried to resist, he threatened to kill her and seize her family’s property, which forced her to remain silent initially.
Extortion Through Obscene Video
The victim further alleged that the accused recorded an obscene video during the assault. He later sent the video to her WhatsApp and demanded ₹50,000, threatening to make it viral. Over a period of time, he extorted approximately ₹4–5 lakh from her, police said.
The harassment reportedly continued as Parashar lured her to another location on Barthara Road, where he again sexually assaulted and physically assaulted her.
Complaint Filed After Continued Threats
Unable to bear the ongoing threats and blackmail, the survivor confided in her mother, after which they approached the Gohad police station and filed a formal complaint.
Police Investigation Underway
Station in-charge (TI) Abhishek Gautam confirmed that multiple serious charges under the Indian Penal Code have been registered against the accused. Police are now examining digital evidence—including phone data, chats, and videos—as part of the investigation. Efforts are currently underway to trace and arrest Parashar.
