An elderly woman has died following a multi-vehicle collision on the M1 motorway near Drogheda, County Meath, Gardaí confirmed on Friday.
The crash, involving five vehicles, occurred shortly after 11:10 a.m. on the northbound carriageway at Platin, just before the toll bridge. Emergency services responded promptly to the scene, and three people were taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda for treatment.
One of the injured—a woman in her 80s—later succumbed to her injuries. The Coroner has been notified, and a post-mortem examination will be carried out in due course.
In a statement, a Garda spokesperson said a Senior Investigating Officer has been appointed to lead the inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the collision. Gardaí have appealed to the public for assistance, urging any witnesses to come forward.
Road users who were travelling in the area at the time and may have camera footage, including dash-cam recordings, are asked to make the material available to investigators.
