New Delhi: In a major pre-New Year crackdown aimed at strengthening law and order, the South-East Delhi Police arrested more than 150 criminals during a large-scale special drive titled Operation Aaghat.
The operation was conducted across the district to deter crime and enhance public safety ahead of the festive period.According to police officials, the drive involved extensive checking and questioning at multiple locations. Over 1,000 individuals were questioned during the operation, with several taken in for verification under preventive provisions to curb potential criminal activity.
Arrests and Preventive Action:
A total of 285 accused were arrested under various laws, including the Arms Act, Excise Act, NDPS Act and Gambling Act. In addition, 504 individuals were apprehended under preventive action. Police also detained 116 listed “bad characters” with known criminal histories. The operation further resulted in the arrest of 10 property offenders and five auto-lifters, dealing a significant blow to theft-related crimes in the area.
Seizures and Recoveries:
The drive led to the recovery of a wide range of illegal items, including 21 country-made pistols, 20 live cartridges and 27 knives. Police seized 12,258 quarters of illicit liquor and 6.01 kg of ganja. From gambling-related cases, cash amounting to ₹2,30,990 was recovered.
In addition, officers recovered 310 mobile phones reported as snatched, robbed or lost, along with 231 two-wheelers and one four-wheeler.
As part of preventive policing measures, 1,306 individuals were rounded up to maintain peace and prevent potential offences. Deputy Commissioner of Police (South-East) Hemant Tiwari said the operation was strategically planned to enhance public safety and send a clear message that criminal activities will not be tolerated.
