The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has launched a sharp attack against the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and its president, former Bihar Chief Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav, over an allegedly lavish residence reportedly under construction in Patna’s Mahuabagh locality. A video of the under-construction property was posted on the party’s official X handle, accompanied by a caption alleging that Lalu’s “socialism” has translated into wealth accumulated through corrupt means.
BJP spokesperson Neeraj Kumar escalated the criticism, warning that assets allegedly acquired through corrupt practices could be seized by the Enforcement Directorate (ED). His remarks came amid ongoing discussions surrounding the long-standing “land-for-jobs” case.
In July 2023, the Enforcement Directorate attached properties valued at over ₹6 crore across Patna, Delhi, and Ghaziabad, belonging to Lalu Prasad Yadav’s family and associated companies. The attached properties included a plot in Mahuabagh reportedly owned by Rabri Devi. However, it remains unclear whether the bungalow currently being targeted by the BJP is the same property under ED scrutiny. Reports suggest that Lalu Prasad Yadav has been frequently visiting the construction site to oversee progress.
Speculation has intensified following a government notice requiring the Yadav family to vacate the 10 Circular Road residence. It is now being suggested that, instead of moving to the house at 39 Hardinge Road, the family may relocate to the new Mahuabagh residence once it is complete.
“Lalu Ji’s version of ‘socialism’ appears to benefit only one family—his own,” the Bihar BJP posted on X. “The Lalu family and their private companies have ensured every form of luxury for themselves. Another grand palace is now rising in the heart of Patna.”
Reinforcing the allegations, party spokesperson Neeraj Kumar released a video statement warning that “any property amassed through corruption will eventually be seized by the ED.” He added: “Lalu Yadav’s so-called social justice and socialism have reduced themselves to nepotism and family rule. The Mahuabagh residence is being built on land acquired through coercion during the land-for-jobs scam. The ED may take action at any time. Lalu Ji, beware—loot-laden wealth never lasts. Your family has plundered Bihar for years, and you owe the public an explanation for the source of this enormous wealth.”
