Ram Janmabhoomi Movement Stalwart and Former Ayodhya MP Dr Ram Vilas Das Vedanti Passes Away

New Delhi: Dr Ram Vilas Das Vedanti, a key architect of the Ram Janmabhoomi movement and a former Member of Parliament from Ayodhya, passed away while undergoing treatment in Rewa, Madhya Pradesh. He was also a former MP and a member of the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed deep condolences over Dr Vedanti’s demise, describing it as an irreparable loss to the spiritual world and to Sanatan culture.

“Dr Ram Vilas Das Vedanti Ji Maharaj, a central pillar of the Ram Janmabhoomi movement, former MP, and a revered figure of the Vasishtha Ashram in Shri Ayodhya Dham, has left us. His passing marks the end of an era. His life of sacrifice, dedicated to the service of religion, society and the nation, will remain an enduring source of inspiration. I pray to Lord Shri Ram to grant his soul a place at His feet and to give strength to his disciples and followers to bear this profound loss,” the Chief Minister said in his condolence message.

Key Role in Ram Janmabhoomi Movement

Dr Vedanti was widely regarded as one of the prominent leaders of the Ram Janmabhoomi movement. During his tenure as a Member of Parliament from Ayodhya, he consistently advocated for the construction of the Ram Temple, both within Parliament and through public engagement on the streets.

In recent months, Dr Vedanti had also urged the central and Uttar Pradesh governments to rename roads in Ayodhya, calling for street names that reflect the city’s cultural and civilisational heritage.

Views on Ayodhya’s Cultural Identity

Speaking earlier to IANS, Dr Vedanti said that a grand temple had been built in the name of Lord Shri Ram and that the hoisting of the saffron flag at the temple symbolised the culmination of deeply held public sentiments, which were formally dedicated to the nation on November 25.

He had also advocated naming streets in Ayodhya after Lord Ram and his ancestors, including King Dilip, King Raghu and King Dasharatha. He maintained that streets in the holy city should not bear the names of individuals opposed to Lord Ram.

Dr Ram Vilas Das Vedanti’s passing is being widely viewed as the close of a significant chapter in the history of the Ram Janmabhoomi movement.
