Cork: A Malayali youth died after his car fell into a river in Cork, Ireland. The deceased has been identified as Joyce Vilangupara (34), a native of Kambammett, Idukki, and a resident of Yol Ballina. The car Joyce was travelling in skidded and fell into the river in the Bryde River near the Conna Road (R628) in Cork last night.
Joyce, who was an employee at the Balancuring Nursing Care Home near Middleton, was on his way home from work when the car accident occurred. When Joyce was still missing after a long time, his wife and children, who were alarmed, informed Joyce's friends. They conducted an initial search, but found no trace of him, so they informed the Gardaí.
Gardaí immediately began searching. In the morning, a car submerged in the river was noticed by local residents. Gardaí arrived and removed the body from inside the car. Joyce was alone in the car. Joyce was carrying a cake that someone had given him when he returned from work.
When the body was removed by gardaí, Joyce was holding a Christmas cake that he had prepared for his children. Heavy rain had fallen in the area yesterday. It is believed that the car skidded in the rain and plunged into the river. Gardaí were alerted to the car being seen in the river at around 10.00am on Saturday. Rescue workers who arrived at the scene confirmed that the passenger was dead. The body was taken to Cork University Hospital.
A post-mortem examination will be carried out later to determine the cause of death. The Conna Road remains closed as forensic collision investigation teams carry out technical examinations following the incident. Vehicles have been diverted. Authorities have appealed for any witnesses to contact the Gardaí.
Gardaí have also appealed to anyone with camera footage, including dashcams, who travelled along the Conna Road between 10pm on Friday 19th December and 10am on Saturday 20th December, to provide their footage to the investigation team. Anyone with any information is asked to contact Fermoy Garda Station (025 82100) or the Garda Secret Helpline on 1800 666 111, the notice said.
Joyce's untimely and unexpected death left his wife and two young children orphaned. Everyone who knew Joyce is deeply saddened
