All nurses and midwives practising in Ireland must have their names on the Register of Nurses and Midwives maintained by the NMBI. They must renew their registration each year to maintain their registration . The 2026 NMBI annual registration renewal period will run from 4 November 2025 to 31 January 2026 .
Please note that student nurses and midwives do not need to renew. Nurses or midwives who first registered on or after 1 September 2025 do not need to renew until the annual renewal in 2027.
Notifications with details on how to renew will be sent to all registrants by email. If you have not received your notification, please check your spam, junk or other email folders. If your email address is not in these folders, you can contact our Customer Care Centre on 0818 200 116 (+353 818 200 116 outside Ireland) or email regservices@nmbi.ie and we will send you details. When contacting us, please provide your name, personal identification number (PIN) and date of birth to ensure that we can deal with your query efficiently. Do not start the renewal process without a renewal notification.
All registrants are legally obliged under Section 53 of the Nurses and Midwives Act to keep their details on the register accurate and up to date. These details include contact information (address, email address, phone number) and employment details. Paying your annual registration renewal via MyNMBI Annual registration renewals must be made via the online portal, MyNMBI. NMBI will not accept annual renewal payments over the phone.
To renew your registration, log in to MyNMBI- using the email address that was sent to you. The MyNMBI- portal has recently been updated to make it easier to use, and you will need to reset your password. This can be done by selecting the Forgotten Password button. Please do not create a new account or you will not be able to access your details.
MyNMBI- Mobile is enabled, making it more convenient to access the range of services, it is still recommended to use a laptop or desktop to renew your registration. You can log in to MyNMBI using your email address and your password . If you cannot remember your password, please follow the steps to reset your password using the password button.
