Kurnool: Andhra Pradesh Police have arrested a 38-year-old woman for allegedly attempting to infect a doctor with HIV-positive blood as an act of revenge against her former lover, officials said.
Revenge Motive
According to police, Shobha Rani and Dr. Charan were in a long-term relationship in the past. However, Charan later married Dr. Shanthi, which reportedly triggered resentment and led the accused to hatch a calculated plan to disrupt the couple’s married life.
Posing as Lab Technician
Investigators said the accused approached Dr. Shanthi while impersonating a laboratory technician. Claiming that she needed to collect a blood sample for testing, Shobha Rani allegedly injected Dr. Shanthi with blood that she had previously procured, using a syringe.
Dr. Shanthi reportedly grew suspicious after noticing abnormalities during the injection and immediately sought medical attention and alerted the police.
Source of Infected Blood
Police investigations revealed that the accused had purchased HIV-positive blood from an infected individual in exchange for money. The act was allegedly premeditated, with the blood arranged in advance for the attack.
A case has been registered against Shobha Rani under serious criminal charges, including attempt to murder. Health department officials said Dr. Shanthi is currently undergoing post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP) as a preventive measure and remains under medical observation.
Police said further investigation is underway.
