New Delhi: Amid growing concerns over the deteriorating law and order situation in the national capital, an advocate was shot at by a group of assailants in Trilokpuri while attempting to help a stabbed youth and alert the police. The incident occurred around midnight on January 24, police said.
The injured advocate has been identified as Nitin Hastauriya, who was attacked after he stopped to assist a young man found lying in a pool of blood with stab injuries. According to information provided by his brother, Amardeep Hastauriya, Nitin was returning home after attending a birthday party at his father-in-law’s residence in Meet Nagar.
At around 12:30 am, while parking his car near Block 27, Trilokpuri, Nitin noticed a youth identified as Vishal lying injured on the roadside. As he attempted to help the victim and inform the police, a group of more than six men allegedly surrounded him and opened fire, hitting him in the thigh.
Nitin was immediately rushed to Max Super Speciality Hospital, Patparganj, where he is currently undergoing treatment. Hospital authorities said his condition is stable and out of danger.
Following the incident, personnel from the Mayur Vihar police station reached the spot and conducted a preliminary investigation. Bullet fragments were recovered from the scene, and police are examining CCTV footage from the surrounding area to identify the attackers.
Police officials said efforts are underway to trace and arrest the accused at the earliest. The incident has further heightened public anxiety, with residents expressing concern over the audacity of criminal gangs operating even in busy areas of the capital without fear of law enforcement.
