The arrest of Shivaji Sonawale has triggered a political storm, with the Shiv Sena (UBT) alleging that he is a personal security guard of Karjat constituency’s ruling party MLA, Mahendra Thorve. The opposition accused the ruling dispensation of presiding over a complete breakdown of law and order in the state, holding Chief Minister Eknath Shinde responsible for the deteriorating situation.
Background of the Assault
Preliminary investigations suggest that the accused and the victim were previously acquainted. Police indicated that the violence may have stemmed from a dispute related to the damage of a vehicle’s window glass. The viral footage shows the accused smashing the car’s window and brutally assaulting a young man seated inside.
Police confirmed that a case has been registered in connection with the incident and that further investigation is underway. Meanwhile, allegations of the accused’s links to the ruling party have intensified political scrutiny, with the issue expected to spark further debate in the coming days.
