NEW DELHI: Security agencies have placed Delhi and several other cities across the country on high alert ahead of Republic Day, following intelligence inputs warning of potential threats from Khalistani groups and Bangladesh-based terror outfits.
According to intelligence sources quoted by news agency ANI, alerts have been issued indicating that Khalistani terrorist organisations, in coordination with Bangladesh-based extremist groups, may attempt to carry out disruptive activities around January 26.
The inputs further suggest that Punjab-based gangsters are increasingly being used as foot soldiers by Khalistani and other radical handlers operating from abroad. These handlers are reportedly exploiting local criminal networks to advance their agendas and undermine India’s internal security framework.
The alert notes that such criminal elements are active across Haryana, the Delhi-NCR region, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan, and are gradually establishing operational links with Khalistani terrorist groups. Security agencies are closely monitoring the situation and have intensified surveillance and preventive measures to ensure public safety during Republic Day celebrations.
