PM Modi Sounds Poll Bugle in Bengal, Calls for BJP Government

Malda (West Bengal): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday sounded the election campaign note in West Bengal’s Malda, asserting that the time had come for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to form the government in the state in the upcoming Assembly elections.

Addressing a large public gathering, the Prime Minister said that good governance under the BJP was visible across the country and that West Bengal should now follow the same path. “In every corner of the country where the BJP is in power, there is good governance. Now it is Bengal’s turn. After our victory in Bihar, I said that with the blessings of Maa Ganga, the river of development will flow in Bengal as well—and the BJP will make this happen,” he said.

Highlighting recent political gains, PM Modi pointed to the BJP’s performance in other states. “Yesterday, you saw a historic BJP victory in Maharashtra. A few days ago, Kerala also elected a BJP mayor. This shows that the country’s Gen Z has full faith in the BJP. I can see your energy, and I am confident that Bengal will vote for the BJP this time,” he said.

Stepping up his campaign rhetoric, the Prime Minister engaged the crowd in a call-and-response chant, saying, “When I say ‘paltano dorkar’ (there must be change), you say ‘chai BJP sarkar’ (we want a BJP government).”

Launching a sharp attack on the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC), PM Modi accused the state government of failing on key development fronts. “There are no factories in Bengal. Farmers are not receiving their rightful benefits. The state government has deprived you of what is rightfully yours,” he alleged.

The Prime Minister reiterated his commitment to welfare measures, stating that he wanted every poor family in Bengal to have a permanent house and access to free ration and central government schemes. However, he claimed that corruption at the state level was preventing benefits from reaching the intended beneficiaries. “The money sent by the Centre for the poor is being looted by TMC leaders,” he said, adding that the Mamata Banerjee-led government had become “an enemy of the people of Bengal.”

PM Modi also criticised the state government for not implementing the Ayushman Bharat health insurance scheme. “Bengal is the only state where Ayushman Bharat is not allowed. TMC leaders are stopping poor people from benefiting from my schemes,” he said, calling on voters to “say goodbye to such a cruel government.”

On the issue of infiltration, the Prime Minister said it was essential to take firm action against illegal immigrants, noting that even developed countries were driving out those who enter illegally.

Concluding his address, PM Modi assured members of the Matua community that their constitutional rights would remain protected. “This is Modi’s guarantee—the Constitution will continue to safeguard you,” he said.
