Co Louth: A man remains in critical condition in hospital following a serious road traffic collision on the N2 near Funshog, Collon, in the early hours of Saturday morning.
Gardaí and emergency services were alerted to the incident shortly after 3 am on February 7. The collision involved a car and a pedestrian. The pedestrian, a man in his 40s, received emergency medical treatment at the scene before being taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda. He was later transferred to Beaumont Hospital, where his condition is described as critical.
The driver of the car, a woman in her 20s, was uninjured.
The N2 was closed throughout Saturday morning and afternoon to facilitate a technical examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators and is expected to reopen shortly.
Gardaí have launched a full investigation and are appealing for witnesses. In particular, road users or pedestrians who were in the area at the time and may have dash-cam or other camera footage are urged to come forward.
A spokesperson for An Garda Síochána said anyone who witnessed the collision or who travelled on the N2 near Funshog, Collon, between 2.40 am and 3.20 am is asked to make any available footage accessible to investigating officers.
