Kiev: 10 people, including a Malayali, were killed in a Russian attack on a cargo ship off the coast of the Ukrainian city of Odessa.
The deceased has been identified as Akhil Joyan (26), a native of AKG Nagar, Vellarikundu, Kasaragod. The ship was carrying Indian and Syrian sailors. The Ukrainian Air Force said that the Russian cruise missile attack targeted the Guinea-Bissau-flagged ship. The attack targeted the ship 'Golden Leo'.
The Odessa region has been under continuous Russian attacks in the past few weeks. Governor Ole Kiper said 28 people were killed in Russian attacks in July alone. There has also been an increase in Russian attacks on cargo ships in the Black Sea, which carries two-thirds of Ukraine's agricultural exports.
Ukraine has also intensified its attacks on Russia. Ukraine's drone military commander Robert Brovdy said that 183 Russian ships were attacked in July alone.
