Hassan: A 29-year-old woman who had arrived to attend a wedding function with gold jewellery reportedly worth ₹30 lakh has gone missing under mysterious circumstances in Karnataka’s Hassan district. The incident occurred in Kalkere village in the Belur taluk.
The missing woman has been identified as Priyanka (29), a native of Kunigal in Tumakuru district. Her clothes, footwear and bag were later discovered abandoned by the roadside, intensifying concerns over her safety.
Sequence of Events
Priyanka had travelled with family members to attend a wedding in Chikkamagaluru. She was last seen around 7.30 pm on February 12 at the Belur bus stand. According to her family, she made a phone call informing them that she had met someone she knew. The call was abruptly disconnected shortly thereafter, and her mobile phone was subsequently found switched off.
Disturbing Discoveries During Search
During an extensive search operation, police recovered her bag, footwear and certain personal belongings from Kalkere. The discovery of these items discarded along a roadside has raised serious suspicions that she may have fallen victim to foul play.
Family members have expressed concern that Priyanka may have been targeted for the gold jewellery she was wearing for the wedding. They suspect that a robbery attempt could have led to an attack.
Allegations of Delayed Response
The family has also alleged that despite approaching the Arasikere and Belur police stations immediately after she went missing, prompt action was not taken at the initial stage.
Investigation Intensified
The Hassan Rural Police have since intensified the investigation. A dog squad and forensic experts have visited the scene to gather evidence. Authorities are currently examining CCTV footage from the Belur bus stand and along the route leading to Kalkere as part of efforts to trace the missing woman and determine the circumstances surrounding her disappearance.
Police officials have stated that all possible angles are being explored as the search continues.
