Fundraiser Launched for Dublin Family of Six After Suspected Arson Attack Destroys Home

A fundraising appeal has been launched to support a Dublin family of six left traumatised after a suspected arson attack destroyed their apartment in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Katie Chalk and Jordan Wade, along with their four young children aged seven, three, two and one, were forced to flee their Dublin 8 home after being awakened by fire alarms at approximately 2:40am. The blaze rapidly engulfed the property, leaving the family with little more than the clothes they escaped in.

Gardaí and emergency services, including units from Dublin Fire Brigade, attended the scene of what is being treated as a case of criminal damage by fire. Authorities believe the incident may have been one of mistaken identity.

A Garda spokesperson confirmed that six people, including one juvenile, were transported to hospital for medical assessment. Their injuries are understood to be non-life threatening. One of the children sustained burn injuries, while Mr Wade also suffered burns in the incident.

The family’s home and belongings were extensively damaged, with smoke and fire destroying essential items including beds, mattresses, sofas, wardrobes, tables, clothing, toys and baby supplies. According to the GoFundMe appeal set up on their behalf, very little remains safe for use.

The fundraising page highlights the family’s already challenging circumstances, noting that the six had been living in severe overcrowding in a one-bedroom flat. One of the children has severe autism, adding further complexity to their immediate rehousing needs.

“Given the extent of the damage and the fact they were already living in severe overcrowding, this family will now need to be rehoused,” the appeal states. “We are raising funds to support them through this immediate emergency and to help them rebuild once suitable accommodation is secured.”

Supporters are being encouraged to donate or share the appeal, with organisers stressing that any contribution, regardless of size, will make a meaningful difference as the family seeks to recover from the ordeal.

Gardaí have confirmed that a technical examination of the scene has been completed and investigations into the incident remain ongoing.Fundraiser Launched for Dublin Family of Six After Suspected Arson Attack Destroys Home
