A man in his seventies has died following a fatal road traffic collision in County Tipperary on Sunday afternoon, marking the latest tragedy on Irish roads.
Gardaí and emergency services were alerted shortly after 2.15pm on Sunday, February 8, 2026, to a single-vehicle crash on the R660 at Holycross. The man, who was the sole occupant of the car, was pronounced dead at the scene.
His body has been removed to the mortuary at University Hospital Limerick, where a post-mortem examination will be carried out in due course. The local Coroner has been notified.
Garda Forensic Collision Investigators conducted a full technical examination of the scene. The road, which had been closed for a period to facilitate investigations, has since fully reopened to traffic.
Gardaí have issued an appeal for witnesses, particularly motorists who may have been travelling on the R660 at Holycross around the time of the collision and who may have dashcam or other camera footage.
In a statement, a spokesperson for An Garda Síochána said: “Gardaí are appealing to anyone who witnessed the incident to come forward. Road users who may have camera footage, including dashcam footage, and who were travelling on the R660 at Holycross around the time of the collision are asked to make this footage available to investigating Gardaí.”
