Kuwait Foils Assassination Plot Targeting Political Leaders; Six Arrested, Hezbollah Links Suspected

Kuwait: Kuwaiti authorities have foiled a major assassination plot targeting several political figures, arresting six suspects and launching an extensive investigation into what officials describe as a serious threat to national security.

According to the Interior Ministry, the arrested individuals are accused of conspiring to assassinate senior political leaders in the country. Preliminary investigations suggest that the suspects may have links to Hezbollah, the Iran-backed militant group, raising concerns about potential foreign involvement in the plot.

Officials said the conspiracy had been in development for some time and involved a wider network of operatives. Authorities believe the timely disruption of the plot helped avert a significant security crisis.

Of the six individuals detained, five are reported to be Kuwaiti nationals, indicating a notable level of local involvement. Investigators are now focusing on how the suspects were recruited and whether they were directed by external handlers.

The Interior Ministry also confirmed that 14 additional suspects are currently on the run, including individuals who have reportedly fled the country. These include Kuwaiti nationals, individuals whose citizenship had previously been revoked, as well as foreign nationals, including Iranians and Lebanese. International efforts are underway to locate and apprehend them.

According to reports, those arrested have made key disclosures during interrogation, including alleged involvement in espionage activities and cooperation with a militant organisation. Authorities say the suspects admitted to participating in a coordinated effort aimed at destabilising the country.

Security agencies are also probing possible foreign funding and logistical support behind the plot. Particular attention is being given to the role of Iran-linked networks, although officials have not yet made a formal attribution.

All six suspects have been referred to the Public Prosecution, and legal proceedings are now underway. Authorities have indicated that further arrests are likely as the investigation progresses.

In response to the incident, Kuwait has heightened security measures across the country. Surveillance has been intensified in sensitive areas and around key government institutions, with officials reiterating that national security will not be compromised under any circumstances.
