A violent incident linked to an inter-caste marriage has been reported from Bihar’s Darbhanga district, where a man was allegedly stabbed to death by his wife’s brother following escalating family tensions.
According to police and family sources, the victim, identified as Shankar Thakur (27), was attacked in Asthua village under Singhwara police station limits on Sunday night. The confrontation reportedly stemmed from his recent marriage to a woman from another caste, which had triggered strong opposition from her family.
The victim’s father, Ganesh Thakur, stated that the woman’s younger brother called Shankar over the phone before launching a brutal attack. He alleged that the accused repeatedly stabbed Shankar until he succumbed to his injuries. Another individual, Shivam Kumar, who attempted to intervene, was also seriously injured and is currently undergoing treatment at Darbhanga Medical College and Hospital (DMCH).
Police officials confirmed that the accused, along with his parents, has been taken into custody. Darbhanga Sadar SDPO-2 S.K. Suman said that the couple had earlier visited the police station after their marriage, where they were advised to stay apart due to rising tensions.
In a separate incident from the same region, a 40-year-old man was found dead by suicide in Brahman Tola under the Basti Panchayat area of Jayanagar. The deceased, identified as Mihir Kumar Jha, son of Kirt Narayan Jha, allegedly died by hanging on Saturday night.
Police have initiated an investigation into the case. However, the exact reason behind the suicide remains unclear. Officials confirmed that an Unnatural Death (UD) case has been registered and further inquiries are underway.
