A tragic incident was reported from Delhi’s Kasturba Nagar, where a 48-year-old daily wage worker allegedly killed his wife following a dispute over ₹20 and later died by suicide after being struck by a train.
According to police, the incident took place around 2:30 PM on Wednesday when the accused, identified as Kulwant Singh, allegedly demanded money from his wife, Mahinder Kaur (45). When she refused, an argument broke out between the couple, which quickly escalated into a physical altercation.
Police said Kulwant Singh is suspected of strangling his wife during the confrontation. The couple’s elder son, Shivcharan (21), who works in catering, was not at home at the time of the incident. He later returned to find his mother unresponsive and alerted neighbours.
By the time police reached the residence, the woman’s body was found wrapped in a shawl on the bed. Authorities noted that before their arrival, family members and neighbours had reportedly moved the body from the terrace to the ground floor, complicating the initial scene assessment.
Initially, relatives claimed that Mahinder Kaur may have died by suicide. However, inconsistencies in statements and visible injuries on the victim’s neck raised suspicion. A post-mortem examination conducted later confirmed it as a case of homicide.
Following the incident, Kulwant Singh went missing, prompting a search operation. Locals later reported seeing him near railway tracks close to the residence. When police teams reached the spot, he allegedly attempted to flee and was subsequently hit by an approaching train, dying on the spot.
Police officials stated that further investigation is underway, including examination of possible substance abuse and financial stress as contributing factors. Authorities are also reviewing witness statements, post-mortem findings, and mobile location data, which will be submitted in the final report to the court.
