TEHRAN / JERUSALEM — The escalating conflict between Israel and Iran has reached a new level of volatility, with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) publicly vowing to "pursue and kill" Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
In a statement published via its official outlet, Sepah News, the IRGC characterized the Prime Minister as a "child-killing criminal," declaring that their forces would continue to target him with "full force" for the duration of his life.
A War of Threats
This aggressive posturing follows a series of veiled threats from Prime Minister Netanyahu regarding the leadership of Iran and its regional proxies. During a recent high-level security briefing, when asked whether Israel intended to target Iran’s new Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, or Hezbollah leader Naim Qassem, Netanyahu refused to offer any assurances.
"I wouldn’t issue life insurance policies to any of the leaders of the terrorist organizations," Netanyahu stated. "I do not intend to provide an exact report here regarding what we are planning or what we are going to do."
Strategic Objectives and Regime Change
The Prime Minister’s recent rhetoric marks a significant shift in Israeli policy toward Tehran. In an address delivered on March 12, Netanyahu articulated an ambition to foster the "optimal conditions" for the collapse of the Iranian establishment.
- Internal Unrest: Netanyahu suggested that while the final impetus for regime change must come from the Iranian people themselves, Israel is actively creating the environment to support such an outcome.
- Support for Opposition: While stopping short of detailing tactical specifics, Netanyahu acknowledged that Israel is providing assistance to those seeking to challenge the current Iranian leadership.
- Enduring Commitment: Netanyahu emphasized that his administration remains committed to striking Iran-backed factions, including Hezbollah, which continues to engage in hostilities following the death of former Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.
Addressing the Iranian Public
In a direct appeal to the citizens of Iran, Netanyahu sought to frame the current conflict not as a war against the people, but as a struggle against their leadership. "The moment when you can embark on a new path of freedom — that moment is approaching," the Prime Minister stated, adding that while Israel stands with the Iranian populace, the ultimate responsibility for political transition lies within their hands.
As military operations intensify and diplomatic channels remain largely fractured, the region braces for further instability. With both sides openly discussing the targeted elimination of top leadership, the potential for a wider, more unpredictable regional war has never been greater.
