Delhi Dating App Fraud: Man Abducted, Assaulted and Robbed of ₹7 Lakh; Five Arrested

Delhi: In yet another case highlighting the risks associated with online dating platforms, a 34-year-old man in Delhi was allegedly abducted, assaulted, and robbed after meeting a woman he had connected with through a dating app. Police have arrested a 20-year-old woman along with four male accomplices in connection with the incident.

According to Deputy Commissioner of Police Hemant Tiwari, the accused woman befriended the victim online and invited him to meet her at Nehru Place on Tuesday evening. Upon his arrival, he was allegedly intercepted by her associates.

Abduction and Assault

The victim reported that at around 7:00 pm, two vehicles approached him, and three men forcibly took him into one of the cars. He was reportedly assaulted and choked to the point of losing consciousness. After regaining consciousness, he was coerced into transferring approximately ₹7 lakh through a combination of UPI transactions, ATM withdrawals, and credit card payments.

Police investigations indicate that the victim was driven across parts of South Delhi and Gurugram throughout the night before being abandoned at Nehru Place at approximately 9:30 am the following morning.

Arrests and Investigation

The accused have been identified as Harleen Kaur alias Jenny, along with her associates Nabjot, Sanjay alias Joey, Rishabh, and Sahil Chauhan. A case has been registered at the Kalkaji Police Station under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including sections pertaining to robbery and kidnapping.

Investigators were able to trace the suspects through digital payment trails linked to the fraudulent transactions. During interrogation, it was revealed that the woman allegedly used dating apps to lure victims, after which the group would carry out coordinated robberies.

While police confirmed that none of the accused had prior criminal records, preliminary findings suggest that the group may have targeted at least two additional victims, including a medical professional, using a similar modus operandi.

Authorities have urged citizens to exercise caution while interacting with individuals on online platforms and to verify identities before agreeing to in-person meetings.
