Actor-turned-politician C. Joseph Vijay on Sunday formally unveiled the list of candidates for the upcoming Tamil Nadu Assembly elections under the banner of his party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), marking a significant step in the party’s electoral debut.
Vijay himself will contest from two key constituencies — Perambur and Tiruchi East — underscoring his central role in the party’s campaign. Among other prominent nominations, party General Secretary N. Anand has been fielded from T. Nagar, Treasurer P. Venkataramanan from Mylapore, and Aadhav Arjuna from Villivakkam.
Announcing the candidates in Chennai, Vijay positioned TVK as a people-centric alternative to established political forces. Emphasizing integrity over experience, he stated that each candidate had been personally selected after careful evaluation.
“Today marks an important milestone as we introduce individuals who truly represent and protect the interests of the people. Our candidates come from ordinary backgrounds and understand the struggles of the common citizen. Leadership is not about wealth or influence, but about responsibility, integrity, and commitment,” he said.
Taking a strong stance against corruption, Vijay asserted that elected representatives must act as custodians of public trust. He urged voters to support TVK and its ‘Whistle’ symbol, promising transparent governance and a focus on key issues such as women’s safety, a drug-free society, and strict law enforcement.
“We are here solely for the people and will remain committed to their welfare. We will not misuse public funds or act against the interests of the people of Tamil Nadu. I humbly request the जनता to give TVK an opportunity to serve,” he added.
