New Delhi: In a display of remarkable presence of mind and courage, a 26-year-old woman successfully chased down mobile snatchers and recovered her stolen phone in South Delhi, highlighting both the risks of rising street crime and the impact of swift public response.
The incident occurred in the Madangir area of New Delhi on Thursday afternoon. The woman, identified as Tanishka, was on her way to the Kalkaji Temple and waiting for transport near a Hanuman temple along the BRT Road when two men on a scooter allegedly snatched her mobile phone and attempted to flee.
Demonstrating quick reflexes, she immediately pursued the suspects while raising an alarm. With assistance from a nearby e-rickshaw driver, she continued the chase, alerting bystanders by shouting for help. Responding to her calls, local residents joined in and intercepted the suspects near PSRI Hospital, effectively blocking their escape route.
Police were promptly informed and arrived at the scene to take the accused into custody. The suspects have been identified as Manish (28) and Sunny (24), both residents of the Khanpur area. Authorities confirmed that the stolen mobile phone and the scooter used in the crime have been recovered.
A case has been registered, and further investigation is underway.
Police officials have commended the woman’s bravery and emphasised the importance of public vigilance. They also advised citizens to remain cautious while using mobile phones in public spaces, noting that snatchers often target individuals who appear distracted.
