Bihar: Sub-Inspector’s Wife Dies by Gunshot; Probe Underway Into Alleged Suicide

A young woman, identified as the wife of a police sub-inspector, died after sustaining a gunshot injury in Munger, with authorities investigating the incident as a suspected case of suicide.

The incident occurred within the jurisdiction of the Safiya Sarai Police Station, where Sub-Inspector Chandan Kumar was posted. According to police, his wife, Madhu Kumari, allegedly used her husband’s service revolver to shoot herself.

She was rushed to a private clinic in critical condition but was declared dead upon arrival, officials said.

Investigation Underway

Senior officers, including Superintendent of Police Syed Imran Masood, confirmed that an investigation has been initiated. Given that a service weapon was involved, authorities are examining all aspects of the case.

Police teams from multiple stations, along with a forensic science unit, visited the scene to assess the circumstances surrounding the incident. The body has been sent for post-mortem examination, and officials said further clarity will emerge once the report is received.

Marital Dispute Suspected

Preliminary findings suggest that a domestic dispute between the couple may have preceded the incident. According to police sources, an argument reportedly took place between the two on Saturday morning. While the situation appeared to calm down by the afternoon, the woman allegedly took the extreme step later in the evening.

Station House Officer Sanjeet Kumar informed senior officials, including the SP and Sadar DSP Abhishek Anand, following the incident.

Couple Married a Year Ago

Police said the couple had been married for about a year and were residing in a rented accommodation in the Safiya Sarai area.

The deceased’s family has arrived in Munger, though they have not yet made any public statement regarding the incident.

Medical Findings

A doctor at the private hospital, Dr. Shailesh, stated that the woman was brought in around 6:30 pm with a gunshot wound and was declared dead after examination. The bullet reportedly entered through the left side of her chest and exited through the body.
