A 19-year-old man, identified as Ayan Ahmed Tanveer Ahmed, also known as Mohammad Ayaz, has been arrested in Amravati, Maharashtra, on charges of allegedly exploiting minor girls and recording obscene videos. The arrest follows a complaint filed by BJP MP Anil Bonde.
The accused, a resident of Paratwada, was produced before a local court and remanded to police custody for seven days, with the remand subsequently extended until April 21 as investigations continue.
Allegations and Modus Operandi
According to police officials, the accused allegedly targeted minor girls through messaging platforms such as WhatsApp and Snapchat. He is believed to have gained their trust, lured them into relationships, and in some cases taken victims to cities including Mumbai and Pune.
Investigators allege that he recorded explicit videos without the victims’ consent and later used the material to blackmail them, coercing them into further exploitation, including prostitution. Authorities suspect that more than 350 such videos may exist, while preliminary claims suggest that up to 180 girls could have been targeted.
Investigation Underway
Police have seized the accused’s mobile phone and other electronic devices, which are currently undergoing forensic examination. Officials believe that critical evidence may have been deleted, and efforts are underway to recover data.
Cyber Cell teams are also analysing videos that have circulated online. Investigators are examining whether the accused acted independently or as part of a larger network, with the possibility of additional individuals being involved.
Victims and Public Response
So far, authorities have confirmed seven victims, though officials expect more individuals to come forward as the investigation progresses. The case came to public attention after objectionable videos began circulating on social media platforms.
The incident has sparked protests in Paratwada and Achalpur, with local residents demanding stringent action. Police have urged victims to file complaints, assuring them of confidentiality and necessary support.
Political Angle and Calls for Inquiry
The case has also acquired a political dimension, with allegations of links to the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM), led by Asaduddin Owaisi. Some BJP leaders have claimed that the accused had connections with the party, while a local AIMIM representative has denied any current association.
Political leaders have called for a comprehensive investigation, including the possible formation of a Special Investigation Team (SIT). Police have stated that the probe remains ongoing, with further developments expected as digital evidence is analysed and additional statements are recorded.
