Two lorry drivers have been arrested by Garda Síochána in County Louth following an incident involving alleged dangerous driving that disrupted traffic on the M1 motorway.
According to Gardaí, officers responded to reports at approximately 6:00 pm on Tuesday of several articulated tractor units obstructing the northbound carriageway of the M1, shortly after Junction 14. The vehicles were found to be blocking a busy stretch of the motorway, causing significant traffic disruption.
An articulated tractor unit refers to the front section of a large lorry, comprising the cab and engine, designed to tow a separate trailer.
Authorities directed the vehicles to move onto the hard shoulder to restore traffic flow. Following engagement with the drivers of the two lead articulated units, both individuals were arrested on suspicion of offences under the Road Traffic Act.
The lorries involved have been impounded, and the drivers are scheduled to appear before court on Tuesday morning. Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
