ED conducted coordinated raids across 10 locations in Kerala, including the residences of former Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) conducted coordinated raids across 10 locations in Kerala, including the residences of former Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan.

The action was initiated immediately after the Kerala High Court rejected a petition from CMRL to quash the ED's investigative proceedings. The central agency is investigating a high-profile money laundering case linked to Cochin Minerals and Rutile Limited (CMRL) and Exalogic Solutions. ED raids linked to the money-laundering probe in Kerala triggered protests as CPI(M) workers allegedly attacked an officials' vehicle outside former CM Pinarayi Vijayan's residence

The PMLA investigation focuses on an alleged illegal pay-off scheme. An IT firm named Exalogic Solutions, owned by Pinarayi Vijayan's daughter T. Veena, reportedly received ₹1.72 crore from CMRL between 2018 and 2019. The ED alleges that these payments were disbursed for IT services that were never actually delivered, effectively serving as a method to clear the tech firm's debts.

The operation triggered widespread political tension and chaos across the state, Violence broke out outside Vijayan's residence after the ED officials completed the raid and were leaving the premises. Raids are also taking place at Riyas' residence in Kozhikode.

Searches are also underway at the residences of senior CMRL officials simultaneously, reports said. As the news of the raid emerged, party workers and leaders began assembling outside the house gate, which was guarded by central armed police forces.

The CPM members led by state secretary M V Govindan sat outside the residence in protest against the ED action denouncing it as politically-motivated move by the central government.

  • Attacks on Officials: Furious CPI(M) and Left party workers gathered outside Vijayan’s Thiruvananthapuram home, tracking and vandalizing an ED operational vehicle.
  • Street Clashes: Members of the Students' Federation of India (SFI) and CPI(M) cadres clashed heavily with local police forces deployed to secure the raid sites.
  • Political Response: Left leadership has strongly condemned the searches as a "politically motivated target attack" orchestrated by the central government against opposition leaders.
The Exalogic Solutions case centers on a high-profile corporate fraud, illegal pay-offs, and money laundering investigation involving T. Veena, daughter of former Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, and her Bengaluru-based IT firm, Exalogic Solutions. Gulf News +1The case involves three central investigative bodies: the Income Tax Department, the Serious Fraud Investigation Office (SFIO), and the Enforcement Directorate#

The controversy centers on an agreement between Cochin Minerals and Rutile Limited (CMRL)—a private mineral mining company—and Exalogic Solutions.
  • The Payment: CMRL allegedly transferred between ₹1.72 crore and ₹2.70 crore to Exalogic Solutions as "monthly retainers".
  • The Fraud: Forensic audits by the Income Tax Interim Settlement Board concluded that Exalogic provided absolutely no IT, software, or consultancy services in return. The payments are alleged to be kickbacks masquerading as legitimate corporate expenses.
  • The Wider Scam: Beyond Exalogic, SFIO investigations revealed that CMRL generated ₹182 crore in fictitious cash expenses over 15 years to pay off politicians, trade unions, and media houses to ensure smooth business operations.
