A major drug trafficking case has come to light after a woman was arrested at Surat Railway Station for allegedly carrying a large quantity of methamphetamine on a train travelling from Nizamuddin in Delhi to Mumbai.
The arrest was carried out by officials of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), who acted on specific intelligence inputs. Authorities reportedly seized methamphetamine valued at approximately ₹6.30 crore from the accused.
According to officials, the DRI had received precise prior information indicating that a woman was transporting narcotics on the train, including details such as her seat number. Acting on this intelligence, officers set up a surveillance operation at Surat Railway Station and intercepted the suspect upon the train’s arrival.
During initial questioning, the woman appeared to be an ordinary passenger, which initially reduced suspicion. However, a detailed inspection of her trolley bag revealed concealed drug packets. The methamphetamine had been carefully taped to the base of the bag and covered with clothes and shoe boxes to avoid detection.
Authorities stated that the method of concealment was highly sophisticated and indicative of professional smuggling operations. The seized narcotics are estimated to have significant value in the international market.
The accused has been identified as a 45-year-old woman from Nashik, Maharashtra. She was taken into custody at the scene, and further investigation is currently underway to determine the source of the drugs and the wider distribution network.
Preliminary findings suggest that the case may be linked to an organised international drug syndicate. Officials believe the accused may be part of a larger trafficking network operating across multiple cities.
Following her arrest, the woman was produced before a Surat court, which remanded her to 14 days of judicial custody, considering the seriousness of the offence.
Investigating agencies are now examining her background, contacts, and possible links to other operatives. Authorities have indicated that further arrests are likely in the coming days as the probe expands.
The case underscores ongoing efforts by enforcement agencies to crack down on drug trafficking networks and dismantle organised narcotics operations across the country.
