WASHINGTON/TAMPA — In a major expansion of asymmetric warfare capabilities, the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) announced the official establishment of Task Force Falcon Strike, history’s first multinational, multi-domain attack drone task force.
The newly minted coalition unit is designed to seamlessly integrate one-way attack drones and advanced unmanned systems operating from above, on, and below the sea. Staffed by U.S. military personnel alongside allied regional representatives, the task force aims to forge a unified, multi-domain deterrent across the Middle East.
"Task Force Falcon Strike will expand on [previous] success given the tremendous innovation happening among our regional allies and partners," said CENTCOM commander Adm. Brad Cooper in a statement. "Integrating and deploying our new capabilities together will help us rapidly realize the new possibilities that are on the horizon."
Building on 'Scorpion Strike'
Falcon Strike directly succeeds Task Force Scorpion Strike, the U.S. military’s pioneering single-service one-way attack drone squadron launched nine months prior. Scorpion Station quickly racked up crucial operational milestones—including the historic first-ever launch of an aerial attack drone from a U.S. Navy warship last December, as well as deployments utilizing unmanned surface vessels against strategic port facilities.
While Scorpion Strike laid the groundwork, Falcon Strike scales the concept into a broader coalition framework. Personnel from U.S. Special Operations Command Central (SOCCENT)—headquartered at MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa, Florida—will spearhead the new initiative, guiding its joint U.S. and international staff.
Strategic Timing Amid Regional Flashpoints
The announcement comes at a critical juncture for West Asia, following months of heightened maritime tensions, shipping disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz, and ongoing conflict involving regional proxy networks and Iran. Defense analysts note that the rapid consumption and high attrition rates of traditional defense inventories have accelerated Washington's pivot toward scalable, cost-effective unmanned swarms and multi-domain assets.
CENTCOM confirmed that formal consultations are already underway to invite key regional partners into the coalition. While specific participating nations have not yet been publicly detailed, military leadership stresses that the coalition approach is vital for collective security.
"The United States military has a lot of strong partnerships and friends in the region," Adm. Cooper emphasized. "We are collectively stronger when we integrate and deploy new capabilities together."
As Task Force Falcon Strike begins absorbing local innovations and expanding its operational footprint, it marks a permanent shift in how international coalitions project deterrence and power across land, sea, and air domains.
