Avoid Non-Essential Travel to UAE, Qatar, and Kuwait: Ireland Issues Strict Travel Warning to Citizens

Dublin/Abu Dhabi: The Department of Foreign Affairs of Ireland, along with the Embassy of Ireland in the United Arab Emirates, has issued a strict advisory urging Irish citizens to avoid non-essential travel to the UAE, Qatar, and Kuwait.

The travel advice has been issued in light of evolving geopolitical tensions and the security situation across the wider Middle East region.

Irish citizens and visitors currently residing in or traveling through the Gulf region are strongly advised to register with the Embassy’s official "Citizens Registration" portal. This registration will enable authorities to establish rapid contact and extend consular assistance in the event of an emergency.

In an official statement, the Embassy confirmed that regional security developments are being closely monitored. Citizens are urged to stay vigilant and regularly review updated travel advice and security notices issued by the Department of Foreign Affairs.

Officials have also highlighted the potential for sudden travel disruptions, airspace closures, flight cancellations, and schedule alterations. Irish nationals currently in these Gulf countries are advised to adhere to guidance from local authorities and closely monitor official communications.

Irish citizens are still advised to avoid all non-essential travel to the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, and Kuwait.

Irish residents and visitors in the Gulf are strongly advised to register with the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade on Citizens Registration at the following link: https://www.ireland.ie/en/dfa/overseas-travel/citizens-registration/. This allows the Department to contact you in case of an emergency. The page is also linked on our stories.

Citizens Registration is a centrally managed database, and the Embassy cannot confirm if you are on the register. If you have previously registered and your contact details have changed, please register again with your new contact details.

Irish citizens in the Gulf should regularly check our travel advice and social media to remain informed of the situation in the region:
