LONDON — Manchester Airports Group (MAG) has confirmed that an unauthorized third party penetrated its digital infrastructure, compromising the personal data of approximately 8.7 million customers across three of England’s busiest transport hubs.
The sophisticated cyber incident specifically targeted data systems linked to car parking, premium lounge access, fast-track security passes, and in-airport Wi-Fi network sign-ups across Manchester, London Stansted, and East Midlands airports. Forensic evaluations indicate that the extracted information includes customer email addresses, telephone numbers, postal codes, and vehicle registration numbers. However, airport authorities emphasized that the breached databases did not store banking details or payment card information, ensuring complete financial security for travelers.
Response teams moved swiftly to isolate the vulnerabilities, engage external cybersecurity specialists, and notify the National Cyber Security Centre alongside relevant regulatory watchdogs. Management reassured the public that core operational infrastructure, flight scheduling systems, and physical aviation safety controls remained entirely uncompromised, with all terminals and parking facilities functioning normally. Affected individuals have been contacted directly and urged to remain vigilant against potential secondary phishing attempts.
