Berlin Blames Moscow for Leipzig Airport Drone Attack as Poland Shifts to Domestic Defense Production

BERLIN/WARSAW — The German government has formally accused Russia of orchestrating a failed explosive drone attack targeting the Leipzig/Halle airport. German officials labeled the incident an act of hybrid warfare designed to undermine Western support for Ukraine. In response, Berlin announced retaliatory measures, including the closure of a Russian consulate and tightened border and intelligence controls.

Simultaneously, Poland is aggressively pivoting toward home-grown and regional defense manufacturing to reduce its reliance on distant international suppliers. As Warsaw accelerates its military modernization program to build the largest land army in Europe amid escalating regional threats, domestic procurement spending has surged. Officials emphasize that boosting local production of critical supplies like ammunition, drones, and armored vehicles is vital to ensuring independent front-line resilience.
