US Envoys Conclude Extended Kremlin Talks with Putin as Washington Presses for Ukraine Breakthrough

MOSCOW — High-stakes diplomacy took center stage at the Kremlin as U.S. special envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner held a rigorous, three-hour meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin to explore pathways toward ending the protracted war in Ukraine.

While the Kremlin's foreign policy aides characterized the extended discussions as "useful" and constructive, senior officials confirmed that no immediate breakthrough or formal peace agreement was clinched during the session. The high-level engagement coincided with a temporary, reciprocal pause in capital strikes ordered by Moscow and Kyiv to facilitate safe passage for the American delegation.

At the start of the discussions, Putin acknowledged the complexities on the ground while expressing appreciation for Washington's sustained push for a settlement, asking the envoys to convey his regards to U.S. leadership.

Having mapped out a series of preliminary considerations regarding a potential framework for peace, the U.S. delegation is now preparing to transition its mission to Kyiv for subsequent talks with Ukrainian leadership.
