MUMBAI — A high-level security alert was triggered in Mumbai after law enforcement authorities detained two individuals carrying a firearm and fraudulent identification documents near the venue of a high-profile event featuring Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The incident unfolded at the Jio World Plaza in the Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC), where security personnel intercepted suspects attempting to bypass checkpoints. According to preliminary investigations by the Mumbai Police, one of the detained men attempted to gain entry by presenting a fabricated identity card purporting affiliation with the Prime Minister's Office (PMO). He was accompanied by an individual acting as a bodyguard who was in possession of a firearm.
The suspects have been identified as Rohan Premal Parikh and Dilip Raja Kunde. While initial checks indicated that the seized weapon possessed a valid license, authorities registered a formal First Information Report (FIR) under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), encompassing charges of criminal impersonation of a public servant and unauthorized entry into a secured zone with a weapon.
The Mumbai Crime Branch has taken over the probe to evaluate the exact motives behind the breach. Although law enforcement officials have publicly emphasized that the incident, which occurred ahead of the Prime Minister's scheduled itinerary, did not pose a direct threat to the premier's immediate security perimeter, the breach has prompted a thorough internal review of protocols by city security agencies.
The accused remain in police custody as federal and local intelligence units continue their joint interrogation.
