Five Workers Killed in Explosion at Gujarat Chemical Plant

BHARUCH — Five workers were killed and five others critically injured in a powerful explosion at Synzeal Pharmachem in the Saykha industrial area of Gujarat’s Bharuch district.

The blast occurred at around 11 pm on Friday during a hydrogenation process involving highly flammable hydrogen gas, officials said. The force of the explosion scattered machinery and was reportedly felt several kilometres from the plant.

Around 20 workers were present at the facility at the time. The five injured workers were taken to a hospital in Bharuch, where they were reported to be in critical condition.

The district administration ordered the company to suspend operations immediately while the incident is investigated.

Officials said the exact cause of the explosion remains unknown. The investigation will also examine whether industrial safety requirements were followed at the facility.
