Man Caught After Fleeing Security Check at Delhi Metro Station

NEW DELHI — A passenger was apprehended by the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) after attempting to flee during baggage screening at Delhi’s Jama Masjid Metro station on October 17. CCTV footage of the incident was released on October 19.

According to officials, a dense, suspicious object appeared on the station’s X-ray baggage inspection system (XBIS) screen. The passenger then ran through the women’s security screening area towards Exit Gate No. 1 with his bag. CISF personnel pursued him and caught him near the exit before bringing him back to the station.

A subsequent search reportedly recovered around 155 grams of a gold powder-like substance concealed in a stitched section of an undergarment kept inside the bag. Police identified the passenger as Mohammed Shuaib, a native of Muzaffarnagar in Uttar Pradesh. He reportedly told investigators that he lived in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and worked in the textile sector.

Police initially suspected that the recovered material could be a narcotic or psychotropic substance. However, an examination by the relevant narcotics authorities ruled out that possibility, according to police reports. Investigators said Shuaib could not provide documents establishing ownership of the material or a satisfactory explanation for possessing it.

The passenger and the recovered items were handed over to the police for further action. Proceedings were initiated under the Delhi Police Act at the Supreme Court Metro Police Station. The precise nature and origin of the recovered material have not been independently established in the available official account.
