NEW DELHI — Three Indian seafarers rescued from a cargo ship attacked in the Black Sea have departed Romania for India, the Indian Embassy in Bucharest has confirmed. Sahil Sandhu, Ashwini Kumar and Harman Singh left Romania after receiving assistance from the embassy to arrange their return.
The three were among the crew members aboard the MV Royad Mammadov, which came under attack on October 5 while carrying grain from Ukraine’s Izmail port to Ravenna in Italy. The vessel caught fire and later sank. Two foreign seafarers were killed, while several crew members were injured.
The Indian Embassy had earlier confirmed that all three Indians were safe. One of them sustained injuries and received treatment at Constanța County Hospital in Romania. The embassy said their return arrangements were supported through coordination with Romanian authorities, hospital staff and rescue teams.
The embassy also thanked Romanian officials and emergency teams for their assistance. India had expressed concern over the attack, warning that threats to international shipping routes put seafarers’ safety and global trade at risk.
