SULTANPUR — Congress leader and Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi has been acquitted in a defamation case filed over remarks he made about BJP leader Amit Shah in 2018.
The case relates to comments Gandhi allegedly made at a rally in Bengaluru ahead of the Karnataka Assembly elections. BJP leader Vijay Mishra filed the complaint in August 2018.
Gandhi appeared before the court in 2023 and secured bail. The Sultanpur MP-MLA court delivered its verdict on October 26, finding him not guilty.
The ruling concludes the trial at this stage, although any further legal action by the complainant could affect the case's subsequent course.
