KYIV — Russia attacked Ukraine’s energy, oil and gas infrastructure 76 times in the past week, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on Sunday, accusing Moscow of continuing its strikes despite a US announcement of a halt to attacks on energy facilities.
Zelenskyy said the latest strikes hit electricity substations in the Vinnytsia, Zhytomyr, Khmelnytskyi and Odesa regions. He said the attacks had continued during the week after US President Donald Trump announced an energy ceasefire.
The announcement has not been formally confirmed by either Kyiv or Moscow, Reuters reported. The terms and practical status of the proposed halt to attacks therefore remain unclear.
Attacks on energy infrastructure are a major concern for Ukraine as the war continues, particularly because damage to power facilities can disrupt electricity supplies and essential services. The latest allegations also raise questions about whether diplomatic efforts can secure a meaningful reduction in attacks on critical infrastructure.
